In a buckskin mare in California gave birth to triplets, two fillies, and one colt. It seems the birth took place naturally in a field, and the family was quickly ushered to UC Davis school of medicine. The family was doing fine upon the last report.
The foals weighed between 35 and 28 pounds at birth, which is small but not terribly so. A typical foal weighs about 50 pounds. The chances of a mare delivering triplets are ,, even having three embryos is extremely rare.
Certain horse breeds ovulate more than other breeds, which in turn results in more twin pregnancies. Three types that have the highest chances of twinning are Thoroughbreds, Standardbreds, and Warmbloods. These horse breeds tend to have multiple ovulation, resulting in the fertilization of more than one egg. When this happens, the mare carries twins. In some of these breeds, twinning occurs in thirty percent of their pregnancies are twins.
This rate is exceptionally high when compared to most other horses. Besides the type of horse , other factors result in multiple ovulations, such as whether the mare is lactating.
Mares not nursing a foal at the time of breeding has a higher likelihood of double ovulating. Mares are fertile at about two years old can reproduce into their late twenties. Post by larissar » Mon Feb 24, pm That is not planned for but it's something I could consider adding in if it improves the game.
Post by Horser01 » Mon Feb 24, pm It would make it a bit more realistic. And it would help prevent the market being flooded with only a few peoples foals. If the game is turn based, that means the players who have more time to be on will be able to breed more, so if they're putting out a foal every day from each mare and the majority of the players are putting out one foal from each mare once or twice a week If that makes sense After all, a star racer or such usually only puts out 3 -5 foals in her lifetime Takes too much out of the horse which affects show results.

Joined 25 January Messages 6, Location York. Not unusual to have 10 in a lifetime IMHO they have a way of telling us when they've had enough - by not taking in the first place. My oldest mare is 17 and had her 10th foal this year and looks really well in herself. She'll be put back in foal next year and will only retire when she starts to 'age' or is difficult to get in foal.
