The Ghostbusters movie was a reboot rather than a sequel, so the story started from scratch with an entirely new all-female cast and a modern-day setting. The franchise stuck with Cadillac for the version of the film, but this Ecto-1 was Fleetwood Hearse.
Fun Fact: Dan Aykroyd's original Ecto-1 was an all-black, sinister-looking vehicle with flashing purple and white strobe lights that gave it an eerie ultraviolet aura. While reviewing the script, the cinematographer Laszlo Kovacs initially pointed out the black design would be a problem since part of the movie would be shot at night. Ghostbusters fans will be very happy to know the Ecto-1 will be back chasing ghosts next year in Ghostbusters: Afterlife.
The new movie takes a look at the forgotten legacy and history of the three original Ghostbusters. The Ecto-1 is a large part of this legacy.
In the upcoming movie, the family of Dr. Egon Spengler finds the car and uses it to help save their town from ghosts. The movie will have a new cast and also feature Sigourney Weaver, Dan Aykroyd, and Bill Murray, all three of whom starred in the original Ghostbusters movie.
Written by Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan, Ghostubsters: Afterlife centers on Callie Carrie Coon , the mother of Phoebe and Trevor, who finds herself evicted from her home and forced to move to a farm in Summerville, Oklahoma that she inherited from her grandfather.
During their stay, they start to uncover the forgotten history of the Ghostbusters, primarily through a mystery surrounding on-going earthquakes that are rattling the town.
Raymond "Ray" Stantz and Dr. Peter Venkman, respectively, but they aren't the only stars from the original duology that are set to come back. Also set to play new characters in the movie are both Paul Rudd, as a teacher named Mr.
Grooberson, and Bokeem Woodbine as the local sheriff. We still have quite a while to wait for Ghostbusters: Afterlife , as Sony has positioned the film to be their big blockbuster of the upcoming summer season with a July 10th release date. That's a fair amount of time for one to spend patiently tapping one's foot or twiddling one's thumbs, but the positive way to look at things is that the next few months will surely see the reveal of all kinds of new stills, posters, and trailers that fans can obsess over in the run up to opening weekend.
Growing up in the '90s, I started watching movie after movie on my family's VCR set, and after I was done with the "Back to the Future" franchise, I found myself hitting play on the hit that was "Ghostbusters.
Remember the siren? Whenever that thing would go off, you knew something was about to go down. And I guess it's not far-fetched to call the Ecto-1 the most famous hearse the world has ever known. It isn't an original film vehicle, but an Ectomobile Replica built by a fan, which is still considered road-legal.
And you know how it goes.
